Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the law, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" detailing the expected cost of your medical and mental health care. This is particularly important if you do not have health insurance or are choosing not to use it.
Health care providers must give patients an estimate of the expected charges for services, including psychotherapy. You can request a Good Faith Estimate from your health care provider, or any provider you choose, before you schedule any non-emergency service.
Important: If the bill you receive is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill. Be sure to keep a copy or photograph of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
